Crystalbrook neighbor Paulino Martin has died

Family, friends and neighbors are mourning the loss of Crystalbrook resident Paulino Martin, who died this morning in a hospital in Mexico. He had been detained and deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) suddenly last summer.

Paulino’s family is leaving for Mexico this week. Paulino will be laid to rest in Mexico.

Crystalbrook President Rae Henoch writes, “During this difficult time, his family has asked for our continued support. They [need] financial assistance to help cover burial expenses. . . .” Here is a GoFund Me link if you would like to help. “Any amount,” Henoch notes, “or simply keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers, is truly appreciated.”

The family hopes to hold a vigil for Paulino in Beaverton in the near future. We will share details as they become available.

Henoch concludes, “Thank you for your compassion and kindness as we come together to support this family in their time of grief.”

Let’s dig in (literally) and help restore our creek!

The Johnson Creek corridor is the heart of Four Seasons’ and Crystalbrook’s beautiful landscape. To keep it beautiful — and sustainable and stable — we need your helping hands in March.

A major creek restoration project kicks off in March, guided by volunteers from Four Seasons and Crystalbrook in partnership with Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District (TSWCD), to transform our portion of the creek into a thriving urban sanctuary. Supported by a TSWCD grant, we are replacing invasive plants with native flora that will create a vibrant habitat for local wildlife and essential pollinators. This is where YOU come in.

A Planting Party is set for the weekend of March 14-15 and we need YOU! Gardening experience is not required — just a willingness to get a little dirty and plant beautiful native plant starts. Two work sessions are planned: 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 14, and 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 15.

For information and/or to sign up, e-mail creek@fshoa.net

See you the weekend of March 14!

Update on Crytalbrook’s Paulino Martin

1/18/2026

Urgent!

On Jan. 13, 2026, Crystalbrook Board President Rae Henoch updated her message below to share that Paulino is hospitalized in Mexico and battling pneumonia and COVID. As of January 13, he was on a ventilator and in an induced coma.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with his hospital expenses.

Updated: 3:51 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026

Hi neighbors,

Thank you so very much for the kindness and generosity you showed Paulino Martin’s family over the holidays. They have asked me to pass along how deeply grateful they are for your support during this difficult time.

Many of you have reached out asking for an update on Paulino. He remains in Mexico and is doing okay. His attorney is actively working on the paperwork needed to bring him back to the U.S. so he can fight his case. While his lawyer is hopeful, the process is understandably slow and has been especially hard on the family. Paulino’s son will be traveling to Mexico in the coming weeks to check in on him and help with signatures required for the legal filings. The family is cautiously hopeful that Paulino may be able to return within the next three to five months.

In the meantime, the support box for Paulino’s family is still on my front porch, and any contributions — particularly Safeway or cash gift cards — continue to be a meaningful way to help support his wife and daughter during this time. My address is 15144 SW New Plymouth Lane.

Thank you again for your ongoing compassion, generosity and care for his family. It truly means more than words can express.

Warmly,

Rae Henoch, president, Crystalbrook Homeowners Association

How you can help Crystalbrook neighbor Paulino Martin

As many of you know, our Crystalbook neighbor Paulino Martin, also a well-known, highly regarded handyman in the neighborhood, was detained by ICE and deported to Mexico earlier this week. His attorney has shared the process for bringing Paulino back to Beaverton could take anywhere from a month to a year. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with his legal fees.

In the meantime, his wife and daughter still need our help. They have suggested grocery gift cards — preferably from Safeway — would be extremely helpful. A collection box has been set up on Crystalbrook board president Rae Henoch’s front porch beginning Monday, Nov. 24. Rae’s address is 15144 SW New Plymouth Lane. She will deliver cards to the family.

Many thanks to all of you who have donated to Paulino’s legal fund and have asked if there is MORE that you can do! Let’s all keep Paulino’s family in our hearts this holiday season — and remember his family will continue to need our support.

Happy Thanksgiving to all — and many thanks for your generosity and concern.

Crystalbrook changes in 2026: New Board members

Two new board members — Elaine McDonald from Shallowbrook Lane and Phil Royce from New Plymouth Lane — have been elected to the Crystalbrook Board of Directors. McDonald will serve as secretary and Royce as treasurer. Their terms began following election on November 13. Their board bios and photos will be posted soon.

Rae Henock, Jim Gauronski and Susana Sharp will continue in their current offices — president, vice-president and member-at-large, respectively.

In November, the board also voted to change its meeting day to the third Wednesday of the month. This ensures that the board has timely budget reports from Community Association Parnters, our property management company.

There is no meeting in December: But mark your calendars — January’s new board meeting date is Wednesday, Jan. 21. Start time remains 5:30 p.m. Meetings will continue to be conducted via Zoom.

Welcome, GBR

Crystalbrook welcomes our new landscape company, GBR! The company, which also services Four Seasons, began in September. They will continue to be responsible for clearing all common areas, sidewalks and streets in Crystalbrook as well as certain homeowner services as well.

There is one change — our landscape day switches from Wednesday to Friday.

This is a good time to remind homeowners that you can opt out of certain landscape services like spraying and pesticide use, pruning and weed spraying. (Important note: If you opt out of any or all of these services, you are responsible for keeping your property up to snuff.)

To opt out — or to update an existing opt-out form on file — complete Crystalbrook’s Opt-Out form and send it to our property management company, Community Association Partners (CAP). You can find the form on our Key Documents page.
